Stealth Shadow II Mesh Office Chair with Headrest

My edit suite is pretty cool even if I say so myself. The only thing that has been wrong for a couple of years now is my chair. I have always wanted one of those top-of-the-range chairs (and a massage therapist that comes in at the end of the day). After some extensive research I was being to believe that picking out an office chair is harder than picking out a camera.

My reason for wanting to get the best chair is that I am constantly suffering from incessant back, neck, shoulder and wrist pains. RSI (Repetitive Strain Injury) feels really good, not. The quality of my editing is also suffering due to my mood. Just goes to show that editing is without a doubt an unhealthy business.

It is really hard to determine what chair suits you until you’ve tried it out. Looks, mean nothing compared to comfort. Living on an Island proved to make life difficult (again) as I wanted to try those Herman Miller and Ergohuman models but my local supplier doesn’t stock either of them. These looked to be the kind of thing I was after. However, they cost far too much to purchase without trying it out for size first! My local office supplier has quite an extensive range of chairs but unfortunately not the two manufacturers I wanted to try out. Nonetheless, after months of deliberation I decide to pay my supplier a visit to see what they did stock and try them out. Why, oh, why, did I take so long in doing so?

As soon as I sat in the Stealth Shadow II I knew we were made for each other. Pure heaven! So I ordered one right there and then. In black of course! I eagerly waited for them to deliver it. It took two days, if I remember correctly. When it finally arrived it was in my office in a flash! Wow! What can I say other than ‘I love it!’. Since then my aches and pains have subsided along with suffering less RSI problems. In turn my editing as benefited from my good mood too.

The Stealth Shadow II isn’t a cheap chair (with the optional extra Headrest) costs around £320 + VAT but very, very comfortable. Not only is it comfortable but it looks the biz too, with its clean ’sculpted’ lines and a unique back mounted modesty skirt providing privacy. The sprung mesh back provides superior air circulation and has an incorporated unique height adjustable lumbar support system that can be positioned at the correct height and depth for exceptional support. Furthermore, the high spec seat slide system adjusts depth from the front of the seat to the back rest and has high density foam seat covered with a luxurious hard wearing fabric. It has been FIRA tested for 24 hour use with a 3 year guarantee or an 8 year guarantee for normal office use of 8 hours a day. Also FIRA tested, for users up to 24 stone (no I’m not that heavy).

The ‘Multijust’ arms with swivelling arm pads not only adjust in height and width but have the unique feature of being able to retract providing unobstructed desk clearance. This is simply brilliant as the chair can go right under the desk apposed to my old one!

This chair is fully adjustable in every way that you can customise it to suit you! The price is more than I am used to spending on an office chair but the question I had to ask myself was ‘How long can I afford not to invest in ergonomic chair considering the many hours I spend editing?’ For me, the answer was clear.

Regards,

Paul

Thanks for this – I was looking around for an ergonomic chair too, and like you I don’t have hundreds of pounds to burn. Something around £300 is absolute max.

You’ve convinced me to get one of these – thanks!

When did you right the review? Are you still happy with it?

  • Hi Graham,

I wrote the review on the 16th November 2009 and yes I am very happy with it. The only thing to note is that this chair requires you to sit up right rather than slouching in it. It better for your posture anyhow.
